MacWorld: Geotagging is one of the hottest digital camera trends for 2011
In-camera GPS abilities are quickly becoming commonplace in digital cameras. This feature records a photo’s location into the file’s metadata, and some cameras, such as models from Casio, Panasonic, and Samsung, even allow you to see your photos on a map within the camera.. It’s helpful if you want to map out your images, or just jog your memory about where a shot was taken. Continue Reading >>
Why Geotagging can also be dangerous?
As this blog is all about geotagging and photography, we must remember and be aware to the dangers that might be part of this new technology. Geotagging is all about marking the place where the photo was taken. This is usually a positive idea when we are thinking about our use of our photos but from the moment we upload these geotagged photos to the web without any privacy control, we need to make sure that we understand that we share more information than just our photos. The Geotags are embedded in the photos and are usually not visible to the casual viewer, making it easy to forget that it is there. Continue Reading >>

What is Geotagging and why should we Geotag our photos?
What is Geotagging?
Geotagging is the process of adding geographical identification metadata to various media such as photographs, video, websites, SMS messages, or RSS feeds and is a form of geospatial metadata. These data usually consist of latitude and longitude coordinates, though they can also include altitude, bearing, distance, accuracy data, and place names. (Wikipedia)
So, basically we can say that a digital photo is geotagged if the location information (at least the longitude and latitude coordinates) is added to the EXIF data of the photo (alongside with the date, time, shutter speed, aperture etc).

About Me, this Blog, Photography and Geotagging
My name is Yaniv Frenkel and I’m an self-taught photographer living in Tel-Aviv, Israel. I’ve always had an interest in photography, technology and gadgets. After buying an iPhone I discovered the fascinating world of “Geotagging”.
As we are just beginning to explore and develop this new technology, I believe it holds a lot of new opportunities for great ideas in the future. My guess is that in a couple of years, all new cameras and mobile devices will have a gps chip inside and most of the photos we will share on the net will be geotagged!
In this blog I will try to keep up with all the news, tips, gadgets and updates that are related to the world of both Photography and Geotagging.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you return soon.
